Low Level Laser Therapy Wollongong Chiropractic-min
I have successfully been utilising Low Level Laser (LLLT) (correctly termed “Photobiomodulation Therapy”) at my practice for the last 7 years.  At that time I was suffering from chronic plantar fasciitis.  No matter what I did I just couldn’t shake it.  It forced me to cease running for nearly 6 months and was the source of great pain and frustration.

I then stumbled upon LLLT that had shown promising results for dealing with plantar fasciitis.  Unfortunately no one provided this service in Wollongong so I travelled to Sydney for a series of treatments.  After six treatments I was back running again and delighted at the success of LLLT when nothing else had worked.

I was so blown away that I immediately made inquiries to THOR Laser to undertake training and subsequently purchased a THOR Laser unit.  Fast forward 7 years and every week in practice my patients are shocked at the results that LLLT can have for specific conditions.

Over the years I have found LLLT to be most beneficial for:

- Plantar fasciitis
- Rotator cuff tendinosis
- Acute muscles injuries
- Early degenerative knee osteoarthritis
- Tennis elbow

In short LLLT is beneficial whenever pain and inflammation occur.  It is a painless and very safe treatment option.

Photobiomodulation (PBM Therapy)

What is PBM?

Photobiomodulation (PBM Therapy) previously known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a laser or LED light therapy that improves tissue repair (skin wounds, muscle, tendon, bone, nerves), reduces inflammation and reduces pain wherever the beam is applied. Usually applied by a doctor, therapist or technician, treatments typically take 1 - 10 minutes and should be applied two or more times a week. Pubmed refs

How it works?

PBM works predominately on a protein in mitochondria (cytochrome c oxidase) to increase ATP and reduce oxidative stress. A cascade of mitochondrial and intracellular downstream effects lead to improved tissue repair and reduced inflammation. Pubmed refs Cold Laser / Photobiomodulation for healing and pain relief There is substantial clinical evidence published in peer reviewed medical journals that Photobiomodulation (PBM Therapy) previously known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) can stimulate repair of tissue, reduce inflammation and relieve pain in musculoskeletal disorders.

The three main areas with good evidence are:

- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Joint conditions
- Back and Neck Pain

Other applications such as shingles, post operative pain, also respond well.

THOR specialise in the manufacture of hand held laser therapy devices for qualified doctors and therapists specialising in musculoskeletal pain such as Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Physical Therapists.
